Novelty

Millions of songs already sung

what can be newA_Singing_Bird_by_Monica494

in millionth and one?

If so thought the bird

and locked down its chord

Lives of us all

would be insipid and dull

Well, nothing is new

in the things that we do!

We aren’t here

for a novelty rare

For life is but a vanity fair

I sing a song

I sing in smiles as well in tearsUntitled

I sing not to reach some distant ears

I sing not to please the one who hears

I keep singing till my voice wears

I sing my song for I’m born not of fears

Flash Fiction : Six word story

Here are few micro-fiction stories I tried.

Looking at Sun, he lost vision.

*

While quenching greed, honesty was sacrificed.

*

Cats survive on mice. So do engineers.

*

Singing he was, to deaf audience.

*

Followers are everyone, guarding their fallacies.

*

Building relations, only to be severed.

*

Helping others for one’s SELF-satisfaction.

*

Caged flying bird, imprisoned for life.

*

Stung by honey-bee, mourns for it.

Promise and Unrest

Sometimes its not the movies with great intriguing plots, mysteries, action and romance which leave a mark in your memory. Its the subtle emotions of human beings towards nature and each other which appear so moving. Its lot more satisfying to unravel the hidden emotions in characters and feel their self, than relating to the ready-to-feel expressions presented directly. I had one such rare opportunity to watch the screening of Promise and Unrest and interact with its directors Alan Grossman and Áine O’Brien.

Its a story of a woman, Noemi Barredo who represents a major chunk of migrants who leave their homeland in aspiration of better living. Its the natural way of how the story is presented, which is capturing. It spans over a five-year period, from the childhood of Noemi Barredo’s daughter to her admission to college. The unwilling separation of a mother from her daughter, her migration from Philippines to Ireland, her care for her parents, simple pleasures of life, their worries, eventual death of her father etc. comprises a slice of their actual lives. Its the story of everyday life of an individual, how every event in one’s life is filled with struggle, pain, happiness, hope, trust and promise and unrest. The film ends with a happy re-union of mother and daughter through the ‘right to family reunification’ in Ireland. Here’s the trailer.

More than the portrayal of the film, its the willingness of Noemi Barredo to share her true life and her relationships as they happen in real-time, which impressed me most. Whats more than living daily life as a character in a drama?

Song of Immortality

My first attempt at poetry..

Ages since the world formed
Times since the man ruled

Men have never ceased to hunt
for things that they despise cant

Some went for glory, some for peace
some fed their ego, to rule the race

But the mighty one, which thrilled most
was to immortalise oneself, at any cost

Darkness rose, Magic flourished
Skills were learnt, spells unfold

The scroll which took an era to be born
Was secretly disowned for a reason unknown

Those secret ways were long forgotten
their traces lost, evidence hidden

The passion for life, has not lost its toll
For people lose lives, in search of scroll

One such man, intrigued by the tales
put up his shoes, to height the scales

Immortality for him was not just a curiosity
It was passion, for which he dared adversity

Destiny placed, the scroll in his hand
An evil laughter crossed his mind

The scroll had a song heard by none
Singing it would make him, an undying one

There was a trick, which it did state
The singing had to be dispassionate!

The heart must be pure, desireless
of even immortality, till the song ends

The song was long, the challenge was strong
But he was determined to stay along

He filled his heart with emotions pure
phrased the verses, right and sure

By the time, the end was reached
the passion had died, darkness had fled

Such was the magic the creator dreamt
For a passionate seeker it was meant

The scroll still does lie on destiny’s behest
abondoned by its seeker, waiting for its next!

Poems take a hard time to write. Putting the thoughts across the reader in minimal set of words is yet another art. Attempting to write one helps us to get to see our thoughts personified and gives us a sense of companionship to our thought process. As J.Krishnamurti says,

You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it.
That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies,
that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems and suffer and understand,
for all that is life.

Here is a poem written by my sister..
